About This Wine

Wyethia Flame

Merlot

Merlot is illustrative of the influence of terroir on a grape variety. While some grapes consistently display red or black fruit flavors, Merlot may lean towards one or show characteristics of both, depending on where it is grown. Our Wyethia Flame Merlot from Lodi, California is distinctly red fruited. The inland wine regions of California tend to have high temperatures throughout the growing season due to the influence of the large mountain ranges that line the state's coast. These mountains block ocean breezes and other cooling effects of the sea. Lodi sits west of a large gap in this range caused by the San Francisco Bay, allowing for a cool, oceanic influence. This enables our Merlot to stay juicy and bright despite its inland setting. By doing so, Wyethia Flame has once again released an exquisite wine representative of the climate and terroir of California. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

  • A figure representing the Cherry tasting note. Cherry

Pleasantly balanced with rich fruit flavors. Soft tannins and welcoming sweetness outshine the wine’s refined acidity for a plush and sumptuous mouthfeel. Decadent flavors of chocolate-covered raspberries and cherries stand out on the palate while underlying hints of spice add complexity.
