About This Wine

Willowbrook Cellars

Pinot Gris

Joe Otos has a reputation in California few winemakers can match. With a number of 90+ point, gold-medal winning wines under his belt he's, today, one of the most acclaimed winemakers working in California. Famous, and notorious, for his meticulous attention to every step of the winemaking process, from cultivation to harvesting, to processing and maturation, Otos only crafts delicious, drinkable and high-quality wine.

This Pinot Gris, produce at Otos’ Willowbrook Cellars winery, comes from the fecund volcanic soils of California’s High Valley, more than 2000 feet above sea level. While the volcanic quality of the soil restricts grape production, the decrease in quantity leads to an increase in the amount nutrients and sunlight concentrated in the fruit produced. This translates into incomparably vibrant wines that are flavorful from the first sip.

Willowbrook’s 2015 Pinot Gris is a lovely example of the best the High Valley and Joe Otos have to offer. In the nose, it displays aromas of Asian pear and delicate jasmine, which both tease and delight the senses. In the mouth, this wine continues to excite, displaying a pleasant mineral richness as well as flavors of apricot and lemon. Light notes of white chocolate provide an unforgettable finish.

Wine Region

Lake County

It might be called Lake County, but it is actually volcanoes that give this rugged northern California region its distinct terroir. Part of the North Coast AVA, Lake County lies just north of Napa. Ancient, mineral-rich soils help deliver bold but impressively elegant reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, and whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The vines benefit from the maritime conditions around Clear Lake—California's largest body of fresh water. Its influence brings low nighttime temperatures to balance the hot days, slowing the grapes' ripening and producing wines with intensely concentrated flavors.
