About This Wine

Whipstitch

Petite Sirah

“Best of Class” Whipstitch has once again seamlessly integrated climate, grape variety, and winemaking. Lodi’s Mediterranean climate helps craft the rich, full body, and jam-like sweetness of our Petite Sirah. This historic region falls in a sweet spot where a break in Calfornia’s Coast Ranges allows for cooling “Delta Breezes” to sneak between the mountains, relieving inland vineyards of their high daytime temperatures. This allows the grapes to hold onto some natural acidity while reaching peak ripeness and evolving rich dark fruit flavors. In addition to a unique climate, Lodi is home to some of California’s oldest vineyards. Over time, these vines have shifted their focus from producing large amounts of fruit to channeling their energy into only a small amount of clusters of highly concentrated grapes. Our Petite Sirah is a timeless testament to California terroir, and it too will become even better with age. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

  • A figure representing the Forest Floor tasting note. Forest Floor

Bold and brooding, our Petite Sirah is a powerful combination of flavor and texture. Earthy aromatics lead to a palate with modest acidity and structured tannins. Jam-like flavors of ripe blueberry and preserved fruit balance out the savory notes and create a sweet lingering experience.
