About This Wine

Whale Light

Pinot Gris

Our Whale Light Pinot Gris continues to impress year after year. Our 2022 vintage is crisp and bright with notes of citrus, stone fruit and minerality. This wine comes from a small section of Washington's Columbia Valley, where our local winemaking partners use eco-friendly practices to farm over 3,500 acres of vineyard. Washington sits at one of the highest latitudes among the world's wine regions. At first glance, it may seem too cold and wet to ripen grapes properly. However, the Cascade Mountains block the state's eastern side from rainstorms, allowing its renowned winegrowing regions to thrive. This results in a short summer season with long days full of sun, making it the perfect home for Pinot Gris. These grapes use abundant sunlight to develop lively fruit flavors while cold nights preserve natural acidity, shaping each refreshing sip of our 2022 vintage. Wine Region

Columbia Valley

Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.
