About This Wine

Whale Light

Chardonnay

Washington is no stranger to the wonders of the sea. In addition to being one of the world's most scenic and biologically rich inland seas, making it a prime place for whale watching, the Salish Sea plays a key role in the complex geological history of the region. Vineyards here span a vast array of soil types, which results in diverse wine styles. Our Whale Light Chardonnay captures the complexity and character of this region through its layers of citrus and caramelized stone-fruit flavors. Chardonnay thrives in a variety of soil types and will reflect an array of flavors dependent on ripeness. In the warm climate of Washington's premier grape-growing regions, this fruit enjoyed long daylight hours throughout the season. This allowed for the development of ripe fruit flavors and a rich, opulent body. A bit of sweetness is brought forth by the winemaker's skilled use of oak, resulting in a delectable wine that is made to be savored. Wine Region

Washington

With 18 recognized AVAs, Washington is the second-largest wine-producing state in the United States. Most of these AVAs are located in the east, centered around the valleys of Walla Walla, the Columbia River and Yakima. The grape varieties that thrive here are numerous: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris all continue to make increasingly compelling wines. Washington wines thrive in dry, semi-arid conditions far from the Pacific Ocean and are protected from the Pacific Northwest rain shadow by the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Washington owes its unique terroir to the historic Missoula Floods, which swept through the region 10,000 years ago, stripping away the earth and replacing it with sandy soils from modern-day Utah, Idaho and Montana.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Pear tasting note. Pear
  • A figure representing the Caramel tasting note. Caramel
  • A figure representing the Hay tasting note. Hay

Inviting aromas of ripe clementine and crème brûlée counter the organic scent of freshly cut hay. The palate is rich and round with sweet flavors of butterscotch and Asian pear. This wine has an enticingly soft texture that lingers on the finish.
