Meritage

Beginning as a collaboration of artistic winemakers, the Meritage Alliance started out of a commitment to creating unique and wonderful wines by blending varietals from the Bordeaux-heritage grapes. By combining time-honored techniques with spectacular creativity, members of the alliance have produced wines that are truly singular in quality and flavor. The very name Meritage, a combination of “merit” and “heritage”, captures the blending of tradition with innovation that defines this style of winemaking.

The 2013 Meritage from Uppercut is the perfect example of why you need to try one of these rare, distinctive wines. Using Merlot as a base, this blend incorporates Cabernet Sauvignon and small amounts of both Cabernet Franc and Malbec. During the almost 2 years of barrel aging these four varietals blend seamlessly together each adding flavor, complexity, and balance to the whole.

Notes of vanilla, hazelnut, and nutmeg from the extensive barrel aging give depth to layers of red and dark fruit flavors. This Meritage is a great wine for serving with mixed company. It has a complexity that will impress any connoisseur, while still maintaining an approachable fruitiness that pairs perfectly with a wide variety of foods.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
