About This Wine

Tulares Valley

Petite Sirah

The vineyards of Lodi are often associated with two things: drought and Petite Sirah. Lucky for this Central California region, this thick-skinned, hardy grape variety loves a challenge. The old vines in Lodi have stood the test of time and adapted to the changing landscape. As rivers became streams and lakes became valleys, these vines stubbornly dug their roots deep into the earth in search of water and nutrients. Established vines like these produce richly concentrated fruit at low yields, which is a testament to the saying "quality over quantity." Our Tulares Valley Petite Sirah is as headstrong and authoritative as the vines that produced it. This wine's flavors focus on umami and spice with a potent palate filled with robust tannins. This heavy hitter would perform well at your next barbecue alongside flavorful dishes such as smoked brisket with caramelized onions and a side of mac and cheese. Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Fruit Preserves tasting note. Fruit Preserves
  • A figure representing the Tobacco tasting note. Tobacco
  • A figure representing the Black Pepper tasting note. Black Pepper

Petite Sirah’s inky black hue is a well-known characteristic of this varietal and mimics the kind of flavors you will uncover. Notes of sweet tobacco, black pepper, preserved fruit, and soy sauce stay true to the nature of this grape, as does the palate’s full body and powerful tannins.
