About This Wine

Tulares Valley

Heritage Red

Varietal: Red Blend
ABV: 14.6%
Winemaker: Joe Otos
MSRP: $18.00

In 2013, Northern California experienced one of the most ideal growing seasons the state has seen this decade. For Tulares Valley, our latest Heritage red wine, we wanted to highlight the grapes from this season and turned to Joe Otos, a master California blends, to give our members a tour of this remarkable section of Wine Country.

REGION:

This heritage red wine is derived from 7 different and diverse California appellations in and around the Tulares Valley. 2013 was an incredible growing season for California, without any major fluctuations in weather or temperature. The resulting fruit from produced yields with concentrated flavors and mature tannins perfect for a layered, complex red wine.

WINEMAKER:

Joe Otos is a genius of California wine, creating blends that convey the unique identity of each of the state’s finest appellations. With over 25 gold medals to his name in the past year alone, Joe’s deep knowledge of California’s distinct microclimates and terroirs is evident in every sip.

TASTING NOTES:

Tulares Valley 2013 Heritage Red is full of personality, opening with floral aromas of violet balanced by the red fruit flavors of Bing cherry. French oak aging provides nuanced layers of spice and tobacco leaf. Tulares is intensely flavorful and full-bodied with a strong and lingering finish.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
