About This Wine

Treaty 42 Cellars

Monastrell

Ripe red and dark fruit flavors join peppery spice for an adventurous Spanish red from Treaty 42 Cellars. Monastrell is indigenous to Spain, though its name often varies depending on the region or country to which it has migrated from its homeland. This thick-skinned red grape’s bold tannins and savory characteristics add to the complexity and structure of well-known blends worldwide, including the famous wines of France’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where it is known as Mourvédre. But regardless of its name, this variety produces full-bodied, rustic wines comparable to Cabernet Sauvignon—perfect for deep-red lovers. Monastrell thrives in Spain’s warm, Mediterranean climate, where our local winemaking partners utilize 50 years of knowledge to harness its unique character. Born from old vines at high altitudes, this wine invites you to share in the essence of Spain. Enjoy it alongside hearty Spanish classics like peppered steak or meaty “puchero” stew. Wine Region

Spain

While its reputation as a serious wine destination was eclipsed by France and Italy for many years, ignoring Spain today means missing out on some of the world's most exciting wines. Enjoying hundreds of miles of sun-kissed coastline and rocky interiors at higher elevations, Spain provides an ideal location for vineyards. Whether it is sparkling cavas from Catalonia, crisp Verdejos from Rueda, sublime Tempranillos from Ribera del Duero or inky Monastrells from Valencia, Spain has many wine styles to explore, all expressing the country's wildly unique terroir.
