About This Wine

Trailstone

Riesling

JUST IN: at the 2022 West Coast Wine Competition, our Trailstone Riesling came away with 97 points and a Double Gold Medal!
From our multi-award-winning winemakers at Trailstone comes another refreshingly fruity creation. The 2020 Riesling hails from the cool vineyards of Washington. Initially, one may think this region is too rainy to support successful viticulture; however, there are a couple of key factors that make it a great home for grapes. While temperatures remain cool, vineyards stay dry thanks to the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. These mountains ranges interrupt potentially harmful storms from the Pacific Ocean, which allows a long, dry growing season. While many grape varieties thrive here, Riesling is especially suited to these conditions. For our Trailstone Riesling, warm daytime temperatures and cooler nights allowed for the development of Riesling’s hallmark floral and citrus notes, along with the conservation of these grape’s naturally high acidity. This resulted in a wine with a delectable balance of fruit, acid, and sugar. Pair this wine with a seafood dish, or even better, with the beautiful view at the end of your favorite trail. Wine Region

Washington

With 18 recognized AVAs, Washington is the second-largest wine-producing state in the United States. Most of these AVAs are located in the east, centered around the valleys of Walla Walla, the Columbia River and Yakima. The grape varieties that thrive here are numerous: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris all continue to make increasingly compelling wines. Washington wines thrive in dry, semi-arid conditions far from the Pacific Ocean and are protected from the Pacific Northwest rain shadow by the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Washington owes its unique terroir to the historic Missoula Floods, which swept through the region 10,000 years ago, stripping away the earth and replacing it with sandy soils from modern-day Utah, Idaho and Montana.
