About This Wine

Tintoretto

Primitivo

Varietal: Primitivo
Region: Salento, Italy
Alcohol by Volume: 14%
MSRP: $19

Each year, the winemakers of Puglia set aside the most flavorful grapes to craft small batches of the highest quality wine. This season we secured an exclusive reserve of the finest Primitivo grapes for our members to produce Tintoretto Qualita Prima, a quintessential Italian red wine Bursting with deep flavors of fig and blackberry.

REGION:

Puglia is not only home to some of the country’s oldest vineyards, it is also the heart of Italian agriculture, growing over half of the olives that form the backbone of Italian cooking. Producing wine for more than 2,000 years, nearly every varietal thrives in Puglia's warm growing conditions along the Adriatic Sea.

WINEMAKERS:

Tintoretto’s winery sits very close to the shore, benefiting from a terroir of rich and fertile sandstone soil, and gentle cooling winds from the Adriatic. These vineyards have grown Primitivo grapes for centuries, with the mellow evening temperatures maintaining freshness in a grape that is named for its early-ripening. Puglian Primitivo grapes were brought to America in the 19th century, where they are now known as Zinfandel, but the ideal conditions of southern Italy produce a full-bodied fruit-forward wine unlike any other.

TASTING NOTES:

Tintoretto Qualita Prima opens with aromas of plum, spiced cherries and pepper leading to rich flavors of figs and baked blackberries. Oak aging provides structure and complexity, making this luscious wine perfect for sipping on its own or pairing with your favorite Italian meal.

Wine Region

Italy

While France takes the crown for the most famous wines styles and grape varieties, Italy is where wine was first perfected. The ancient Greeks called it Oenotria—"land of the vines"—and the Roman Empire advanced grape growing and winemaking to a level of quality we still enjoy today. But behind Italy's best-known wines, such as Chianti, Barolo and prosecco, there's an almost endless diversity of delights awaiting the intrepid explorer. The key to understanding Italian wine is regionality and (of course) food. From the aromatic and sparkling whites of the north to Sicily's rich and spicy reds, Italy offers wine lovers a lifetime of gastronomic treats.
