About This Wine

Tintoretto

Sangiovese

This 93 point wine recently earned a Gold medal at the 2021 Winemakers Challenge, and was declared "Best in Show" at the 2021 USA Wine Ratings. A modern take on an Old World classic, our fruit-forward Tintoretto Sangiovese is made in a plush, easy-drinking style. Juicy fruit on the mid-palate is complemented by balanced acidity and dusty tannins. Nestled between the coastlines of the Adriatic and Ionian seas, the Puglia region forms the heel of Italy's boot. Dubbed Italy's New World wine region, vineyards planted here enjoy cool breezes coming off the water that help moderate the typically warm and sunny daytime temperatures. Because this area is relatively flat, it is considered an ideal agricultural landscape and is well known for olive oil in addition to its beautiful wines. Just one sip is all it takes to discover why Puglia is quickly becoming a prominent source of high-value wine. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Tintoretto 2019 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

Wine Region

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.

"How do the Italians manage to produce such fresh, delicious wines such as this from notably warm regions? Careful growing and judicious early harvesting, resulting in a wine that is ripe up front but delightfully tangy in the finish." –M. Franz, 2021 Critics Challenge Int'l W&SCompetition
