Mourvèdre

It’s a fantastic thing that South African wines are continuing to become more and more popular because the region produces some of the most unique and delightful wines in the world. Piekenierskloof, a region on the Western Cape, is ideal for grape growing. The area boasts a moderate climate with low rainfall and sandy loam soils that are well-drained and known for producing beautifully aromatic wines. This Mourvèdre is a perfect expression of the varietal, featuring bold savory notes that are the star of the glass. Medium-bodied and easy-drinking, this is sure to be a star when opened.

Wine Region

Piekenierskloof

Piekenierskloof is a relatively small area at the southern end of the Olifants River region, 100 miles north of Cape Town. This winegrowing region is earning recognition for its high-elevation wines. In fact, Piekenierskloof now boasts some of South Africa's highest vineyards as winemakers continue to explore the Citrusdal Valley's mountainside terroirs. Lying at the base of the Cederberg Mountains, this fertile valley was known historically for its citrus production. But oranges and lemons are slowly giving way to hillside vineyards planted with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes.
