About This Wine

Sunscript

Chardonnay

Judges have loved the newest release from Sunscript. It was awarded 94 Points and a Platinum medal at the 2019 Winemaker Challenge.

Critic Robert Whitley described by saying:
"Balanced Chardonnay was once a lost art. The pendulum is swinging back toward balance in recent times and the Sunscript is a good example. This vintage shows subtle notes of lemon, apple and pear, with a touch of wood spice and a clean, crisp finish. A Platinum Award winner at the 2019 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition."

Up and down the Central Coast there are still traces of the Spanish Missions and their vineyards. Wine has been made on the West Coast for centuries, and in our opinion, it keeps getting better and better. We couldn’t be more delighted to welcome back the award-winning Sunscript to Firstleaf. The Sunscript Chardonnay is an excellent showcase not just of California, but of California’s Central Coast region. It has beautiful tropical fruit flavors that are offset by hints of flowers and vanilla with a touch of bright minerality. It’s incredibly refreshing and easy to pair with rich foods. Try it with lobster, swordfish, or even fried chicken.

Wine Region

Central Coast

California's Central Coast might be a bit quieter than Napa or Sonoma to the north, but this lesser-known region produces many world-class wines. Enjoying incredible terroir along its vast 280-mile stretch—from San Francisco Bay to Santa Barbara—Central Coast wines are increasingly in demand. Its position between the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Southern Coast Ranges is key to its quality, with many cool-climate AVAs offering elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. In the hotter parts of the Central Coast, away from the coastal fogs and cold mountain slopes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre are exceptional.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Melon tasting note. Melon
  • A figure representing the Vanilla tasting note. Vanilla
  • A figure representing the Pineapple tasting note. Pineapple

California's Central Coast appellation is well represented in this wine. Floral aromatics result from a cool fermentation resulting in primary fruit characters of honeydew melon, pineapple balanced by bright mineral acidity and a hint of oily and rich vanilla bean.
