About This Wine

Schema

Vermentino

Our Schema Vermentino is crisp and fruit-forward with perfumed floral aromas and tropical notes. This cheerful wine comes from the scenic island of Sicily, where the locals have been making wine for thousands of years. It is amazing to think that the sun-soaked hillsides where vines thrive today are the same slopes that produced wine when Caesar ruled Rome. This history is possible not only because of the country's love of wine but also due to the remarkable influence of the Mediterranean Sea. Its balance of sun and sea breezes provides such a perfect climate for viticulture that we use the word 'Mediterranean' to describe any climate similar to this found elsewhere in the world. Our Schema Vermentino captures this region's stunning scenery and rich history in every sip. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Sicily / Sicilia

Even among Italy's diverse wine regions, Sicily offers something unique. Abundant sunshine, varied volcanic terroirs, cool coastal breezes and drying African winds make it a perfect place for growing vines. The island is home to many indigenous grape varieties, featuring reds such as Sangiovese, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, and popular white varieties including Vermentino, Catarratto and Zibibbo. As the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily's position between Europe, Africa and the Levant has long made it a strategic location. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Normans and Arabs have all at various times controlled Sicily, and left their mark on its 4,000-year-old winemaking tradition.
