It is amazing to think that the sun-soaked hillsides where vines thrive today are the same slopes that produced wine when Caesar ruled Rome. This history is possible not only because of the country's love of wine but also due to the remarkable influence of the Mediterranean Sea. Its balance of sun and sea breezes provides such a perfect climate for viticulture that we use the word 'Mediterranean' to describe any climate similar to this found elsewhere in the world.
