About This Wine

Qupé

Syrah

Qupé sources Syrah from various vineyards on the Central Coast, starting as far south as the Santa Ynez Valley up to the Adelaida District in northern Paso Robles. Throughout summer and early fall, daytime temperatures leading up to this harvest were mild—promoting the slow, even ripening of deeply concentrated fruit. Yields were average in 2018, producing a well-rounded vintage characterized by deep color, balance, and expressive fruit flavors. Fruit for this Syrah aged for 16 months in Burgundy barrels. With an echo of the Northern Rhône, it shows grip, grit, graphite, and bite that true Syrah lovers seek out.

Qupé 2018 Syrah Central Coast, California

Wine Region

Central Coast

California's Central Coast might be a bit quieter than Napa or Sonoma to the north, but this lesser-known region produces many world-class wines. Enjoying incredible terroir along its vast 280-mile stretch—from San Francisco Bay to Santa Barbara—Central Coast wines are increasingly in demand. Its position between the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Southern Coast Ranges is key to its quality, with many cool-climate AVAs offering elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. In the hotter parts of the Central Coast, away from the coastal fogs and cold mountain slopes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre are exceptional.

Deep purple color with aromas of blackberry, black raspberries, and hints of cola and leather. Flavors are savory with a spicy smoky character, refreshing juicy acidity, and a touch of French oak. Balanced alcohol gives the wine a suppleness that makes it an easy drinker.
