About This Wine

Quipster

Merlot

For those of us "in the know," Merlot is one of the best-kept secrets of the wine world. Refusing to fall victim to the anti-Merlot propaganda sparked by the popular 2004 movie Sideways, we stood by our revered Bordeaux varietal while others tossed it aside. Much like this wine's multi-award-winning 2018 predecessor, our new 2020 vintage once again showcases all the nuanced beauty of a true California Merlot. California's climate allows these grapes to enjoy long summer days basking in the sun, while cool nighttime temperatures ensure that the fruit retains its natural acidity. As a result, we are left with rich, ripe fruit flavors, velvety tannins, and refreshing acidity. With this in mind, there is no question why the previous 2018 vintage boasts 90 points and a Gold Medal from the 2021 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge. This wine is sure to garner attention and spark debate at your next dinner party with its full, soft palate of lush black fruit and spice.

"Here is an easy to drink, crowd pleasing Merlot that satisfies with bold cherry, cassis and oak spice, and a budget friendly price to boot. It will have you acting the part in no time. A Platinum Award winner at the 2021 Sommelier Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition." -Rich Cook, Director

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
