About This Wine

Primêre Blaar

Pinotage

Our 2025 Primêre Blaar Pinotage celebrates the enduring heritage of South African winegrowing. Grown on rugged shale and sandstone slopes above the Cape, these dry-farmed vines endure strong mountain winds, lean soils, and dramatic shifts between warm days and cool nights. The challenging conditions naturally limit yields and encourage deep root systems, resulting in remarkable concentration, mineral complexity, and aromatic lift. Crafted with care, this Pinotage reflects a spirit of resilience, craftsmanship, and place. Structured yet inviting, it offers a distinctive expression of South Africa’s wild beauty; an inspired companion for book club evenings, weekend gatherings, and conversations that linger long into the night.

Wine Region

Piekenierskloof

Piekenierskloof

Piekenierskloof is a relatively small area at the southern end of the Olifants River region, 100 miles north of Cape Town. This winegrowing region is earning recognition for its high-elevation wines. In fact, Piekenierskloof now boasts some of South Africa's highest vineyards as winemakers continue to explore the Citrusdal Valley's mountainside terroirs. Lying at the base of the Cederberg Mountains, this fertile valley was known historically for its citrus production. But oranges and lemons are slowly giving way to hillside vineyards planted with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes.
