About This Wine

PrimaZona

Cabernet Sauvignon

One could argue that Malbec and Argentina are synonymous. However, in recent years, Argentina winemakers have become captivated by Bordeaux-style wines and have significantly increased their production of Cabernet Sauvignon. The high-elevation vineyard sites in Mendoza are perfect for varietals that thrive in continental climates. At the altitude of most vineyard locations, days are dry and hot. The steep temperatures are mitigated by cool winds that blow off of the nearby Andes Mountains which creates a diurnal shift. This change in temperature famously creates concentrated flavors and promotes natural tannin and acidity. The result of these growing sites is nuanced and deeply concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon that has an intriguing flavor profile unlike its brothers and sisters in Bordeaux or California. Savory notes complement deep black fruit flavors that are integrated with oak. This wine is a perfect pair for a classic steak dinner. Enjoy now or age for a few years in the cellar.

Wine Region

Mendoza

Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.

  • A figure representing the Black Cherry tasting note. Black Cherry

This wine has a nuanced and intriguing flavor profile. Dark black fruit flavors of black cherry and blackberry meld with salty, savory notes of tapenade and jalapeño. Hints of cardamom and clove come forward as dusty tannins and a slight acidity rounds out the mouth and coats your palate.
