About This Wine

Pont du Nord Contre Sud

50% Grenache – 45% Syrah – 5% Mourvèdre

Pont du Nord Contre Sud invites you to sample one of southern France's signature wines. Our 2021 GSM features harmonic layers of fruit flavor with prominent spicy characteristics from toasted oak. Grenache accounts for 50 percent of the blend, adding softness, spice, and fruit notes, while 45 percent Syrah and 5 percent Mourvèdre create earthiness and structure. Minervois AOC lies within France’s Pay d’Oc IGP. This mountainous region is home to medieval stone villages set against swells of bright green countryside. Wines produced here must be blends of at least two varieties to display Minervois AOC on their label. The area's warm climate means Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre dominate vineyards. Throughout history, this well-known trio has shaped the region's famous GSM blends and still does today, bringing classic French styles to the modern-day wine lover. Wine Region

Minervois

Minervois AOC gets its name from the scenic medieval village of Minerve. It is a small sub-region of Languedoc-Roussillon within France's Pays d'Oc IGP. Vineyards are planted on the slopes of Massif Central, benefitting from various altitudes and diverse soil types. The climate ranges from cool, Atlantic-influenced conditions in the northwest to dry, Mediterranean heat in the southeast. Wines here must be blends of at least two varieties. The most popular styles are oak-aged, spicy, fruit-driven red blends of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Other common varieties include Lledoner Pelut, Carignan and Cinsault. Crisp white wine blends are produced in lower volumes using Vermentino, Roussanne, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc. AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) is the most prestigious of the quality tiers within France’s wine classification system. AOC-designated wines must follow multiple different rules on a broad range of topics. Wines are regulated on the appellation, varietal inclusion, production methods, alcohol levels, vineyard planting density and age of the vineyard.

Coffee and dark chocolate aromas introduce a toasty, oaky character. Its palate is full-bodied, with layers of black cherry, dark fruits, and earthy root spices. Each sip feels bright thanks to moderate acidity and elegant tannins that give the wine a dry finish.
