About This Wine

Pip & Plow

Merlot

This brawny Merlot is for those who aren’t afraid to get a little sun on their face or dirt under their fingernails. These Washington grapes were harvested from low-yielding vines, which increased the flavor concentration in each berry. Every cluster was also allowed a little extra “hang time” on the vine to achieve maximum ripeness and flavor development. Our Pip and Plow winemakers are experts at taking advantage of what the environment has given them. They matched big fruit flavor with generous oak to create a full-bodied wine that is notably woodsy and ripe compared to other red varietals from Washington. A robust wine such as this is a welcome dinner guest alongside a hearty stew or grilled lamb. Pour yourself a glass and toast to the end of a long day’s work. Wine Region

Columbia Valley

Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Fruit Preserves tasting note. Fruit Preserves
  • A figure representing the Fresh Herbs tasting note. Fresh Herbs

Aromas of bay leaf and thyme stand out among scents of ripe blue fruit. Within this wine’s full body, you will uncover potent flavors of fruit preserves and oak. The tannins here are apparent but not overwhelming and provide just the right amount of structure to the wine’s plush mouthfeel.
