About This Wine

Penrose Hill

Cabernet Sauvignon

One could argue that the quintessential California wine is Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa's rolling hills and deep valleys. After all, it is what put California wine on the world's stage during the Judgment of Paris in 1976. This vintage recently earned a 98 point score and "Best of Class" designation from the 2021 Sunset International Wine Competition, where it was also awarded a Double Gold Medal! The region experiences drastic diurnal temperature shifts — hot, sunny days quickly turn into foggy and cool evenings. This type of climate allows berries to fully ripen while also creating an opportunity for natural acidity and tannins to develop slowly during the growing season. The fruit was chosen from multiple parcels, all hailing from different parts of the Napa valley with unique soils in each location. This resulted in many unique and individual flavor profiles, all of which were aged separately until the last blending to give our winemakers full control over the final bottle. Deep in color and full-bodied, this wine features dark fruit flavors and beautiful earthy notes that complement grippy tannins. Sure to be a dinner favorite! Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
