About This Wine

Owl Ridge

"TYTO" Red Blend

Multi-award-winning winemaker Joe Otos created this powerful red blend with the winery voted “Best New Winery” at the 2006 Wine Literary Awards. He crafted this wine using grapes from the Alexander Valley, an area of Sonoma County known for its silky red wines and home to renowned wineries Silver Oak Cellars, Clos du Bois and Geyser Peak. Aged in French oak barrels to impart notes of toasted vanilla, the TYTO gushes with black cherry and lavender flavors that linger into a slow and silky finish. Sunset magazine’s Wine Editor Sara Schneider notes that "forest aromas—cedar and pine—lead into spicy dried fruit, cassis, and fresh berry flavors on the palate, carried by a firm tannin structure."

Wine Region

Alexander Valley

One of the warmest AVAs in Sonoma County, Alexander Valley stretches from the banks of the Russian River into the foothills of the Mayacamas mountain range. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the main grapes here, creating voluptuously full-bodied wines with distinct notes of cassis, roast plum and even chocolate. They are more fruit forward than the earthy reds of Napa. For white wines, Alexander Valley offers big and bold Chardonnay. These are often aged with oak for a buttery vanilla flavor, and those grown nearest the Russian River have a noticeable minerality. Other grapes that thrive in the valley's balmy climate are Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel.
