About This Wine

Orinda Hayes

Chardonnay

Using traditional techniques to create wine filled with finesse and a sense of place, the wines from Orinda Hayes are nothing short of perfect. This Barrel Select Chardonnay is a beautiful expression of the incredible diversity of the varietal. Hailing from the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey, the unique climate of the region results in rich and vibrant wines that are easy to drink now and also age beautifully. Hot days and dramatically lower evening temperatures allowed this fruit to mature slowly, develop deeply concentrated flavors and showcasing the signature lively acidity of the region. Aged in French oak barrels, this wine features toasted oaky notes and a soft, fruity finish.

Orinda Hayes 2017 Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands, California

Wine Region

Santa Lucia Highlands

Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, this small but mighty area was recognized for the quality of its terroir and became an AVA in 1991. Cooled by Pacific Ocean fogs and strong Monterey Bay coastal breezes, the sunny vineyards here enjoy one of the longest growing seasons in the region. Some regard its powerful Pinot Noir and deeply flavored Chardonnay as among the best California has to offer. And if you want to look beyond classic Burgundy grapes, try Santa Lucia Highland's intriguing Northern Rhône-inspired Syrah.
