About This Wine

Orin Swift

Papillon Red Blend

This is a wine that is all about color and texture. It harkens more to Bordeaux than to other parts of California, but it is all Cali. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, the result is well structured and elegant with gentle, fine tannins that give the opportunity for significant aging. The color is vivid, almost a neon indigo that sits with a dark garnet core with a lucid flush of cardinal in the glass. The wine has a profound nose with aromatics jumping out as it’s poured and full of rich dark berry fruit, California sagebrush, and chaparral. A wine worth savoring today or in ten years' time.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.

  • A figure representing the Black Cherry tasting note. Black Cherry

Delectable and plush on the palate, notes of blackberry and sweet black licorice culminate in a finish of dusty tannins and ripe black plum.
