About This Wine

Ophidian

Chenin Blanc

Our 90 point Chenin Blanc is elegantly balanced and seductively sumptuous with exotic fruit flavors and a round, polished mouthfeel. Just 40 miles north of Cape Town on the western edge of the South African coast, Swartland is a gorgeous winegrowing region. With vineyard sites in many locations and altitudes, all fruit receives sufficient coastal influences from the bordering Atlantic Ocean along with a hot, arid climate. This setting is ideal for wine grapes and travelers alike. Our local South African winemaking partners have cultivated this land since 1923, crafting mesmerizing wines year after year, and our 2021 vintage is no exception. To fully appreciate this wine’s striking aromatic intensity and unctuous body, serve it lightly chilled, shared with family and friends at your next social gathering. Wine Region

Swartland

Swartland is one of South Africa's largest wine regions, famed for its mouthwatering Chenin Blancs, fragrant Syrahs and punchy Pinotage. Forty miles north of Cape Town, Swartland covers a large area from the Atlantic Ocean to the sun-kissed plains of Piketberg. The region has a hot, dry climate away from the cooling ocean, with ancient shale and granite-based soils. This forces the vines to work hard, producing small but concentrated grapes.

  • A figure representing the Tropical Fruit tasting note. Tropical Fruit
  • A figure representing the Peach tasting note. Peach

On the nose, you’re greeted by a lemon-like scent without the bite; this is the aroma of the citrus fruit, Buddha’s hand. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, silky textures where flavors lean into stone and tropical fruit, offering ripe apricot, peach and kiwi notes.
