About This Wine

Open Secret

Pinot Noir

It's an open secret that Pinot Noir is a delicate grape, and the best only come from a few places on earth: the west coast of California, the Willamette Valley in Oregon, and the rolling vineyards of Tuscany. But the best of the best come from the original home of the grape: France. Our experts search high and low to find incredible wines, wherever they are, and while traveling through Southern France they stumbled on the incredible Open Secret 2016 Pinot Noir.

Coming from Southern France, just off the Mediterranean Sea where the soils are perfect for grape vines, and the north winds keep the humidity low (and makes for tastier grapes)—Open Secret combines the best fruit to craft this Pinot Noir. This lush, flavorful wine tastes of ripe red fruits, with subtle hints of baking spices and berries. We’ve loved drinking this wine with duck breast and poached salmon.

REGION
Pinot Noir is a delicate grape, and it only grows well in certain special places, which is why we have searched high and low in the Languedoc to discover exceptional Pinot terroir. We source our Pinot in the Minervois, where rich soils and the influence of the Mediterranean creates conditions perfect for ripening Pinot grapes full of flavor and color, while the persistent Northerly wind keeps the humidity down, and makes the vines struggle – which makes for tastier grapes!

TASTING NOTES
This Pinot Noir is lush and flavorful. Ripe red fruit flavors are strong and backed by subtle hints of baking spice and berries that round out the taste to make a complex, and sippable wine. We’ve loved drinking the Open Secret 2016 Pinot Noir with duck breast and poached salmon.

Wine Region

France

While it was not the first country to master winemaking, no other country has determined the course of wine and wine culture as much as France. From the sparkling wines of Champagne to the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of Burgundy; from Bordeaux's sumptuous blends to Alsace's Riesling; and from the Loire Valley's Sauvignon Blancs to exciting new regions like Pays d'Oc in the south, France has given the world nearly all the major styles and grape varieties that dominate what we drink today. There are numerous reasons why France and wine are so inextricably linked, but perhaps the foremost is geography. Few places can rival France's unique array of hot and cool-climate regions and the abundant maritime influences and mountainous terrain found throughout the country.
