About This Wine

Nino Negri

5 Stelle Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca)

A wine with exceptional body and structure and an almost unrivaled long, lingering aroma. Sfursat is the quintessential "vino da meditazione": deep, velvety and full-bodied, with endless progression, making it ideal both with meals and on its own. Sfursat "5 Stelle" is sourced from estate vineyards in the higher elevations of the Inferno, Grumello, and Valgella sub-zones sitting on southeast exposures at elevations over 1200 feet. This means that the grapes are exposed to beautiful sunlight and cooler temperatures than the valleys below, making wines more delicate but still powerful.

Wine Region

Sfursat di Valtellina

The Sfursat di Valtellina region in central Italy borders Switzerland. It is known for its wine made in Passito style, which means being made from partially dried grapes. Winemakers use Nebbiolo as a base for these wines. After harvest, the best berries are laid out in bunches and remain out to dry for a few months. When berries are finally crushed, their juice becomes more of a syrupy base than liquid, but during fermentation, winemakers thin out the consistency. The result is a rich and full-bodied red wine with intensely concentrated flavors.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Cloves tasting note. Cloves
  • A figure representing the Plum tasting note. Plum
  • A figure representing the Black Pepper tasting note. Black Pepper

With a garnet-brick color, the wine shows complex aromas of cloves, cinnamon, and pepper with plum jam, raisins, and tar notes. On the palate, the wine has a dry, warm, full-bodied character, austere from its prominent acidity yet harmonious, with an elegant finish and roasted hazelnut and licorice traces.
