About This Wine

Murmurations

Winemaker's Cuvée Red Wine

Varietal: Red Blend
Vintage: 2015
Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%
Region: California
Winemaker: Joe Otos
MSRP: $18.00

Following a banner year in which his California wines won over 25 gold medals, we asked vintner Joe Otos to create a Cuvée, or winemaker’s blend, of his favorite California grapes. After sampling hundreds of varietals from the 2013 growing season, Joe crafted Murmurations, a complex and precisely balanced wine, named after the unison displayed by flocks of birds in flight.

REGION:

Winemaker Joe Otos selected grapes from the unique California terroirs best suited for each varietal. Murmurations is derived from 7 different and diverse California appellations, including fruit from the cool Pacific microclimate of the North Coast AVA and the heritage Zinfandel grapes of Paso Robles. 2013 was a remarkable growing season for California, without any major fluctuations in weather or temperature. The resulting fruit from the 2013 harvest produced yields with concentrated flavors and mature tannins perfect for a layered, complex red wine.

WINEMAKER:

Joe Otos is a genius of California wine, creating blends that convey the unique identity of each of the state’s finest appellations. With over 25 gold medals to his name in the past year alone, Joe’s deep knowledge of California’s distinct microclimates and terroirs is evident in every sip.

TASTING NOTES:

Rich yet lively, Murmurations 2013 Winemaker's Cuvée is a substantial, energetic red wine with great structure and weight. Aromas of blackberry cobbler give way to flavors of ripe dark fruits and black cherry. Integrated oak tannins provide notes of savory complexity, setting up a long and lingering finish.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
