About This Wine

Mulderbosch

Faithful Hound Red Blend

Mulderbosch Faithful Hound celebrates the virtues of Bordeaux’s great tradition of blending. Aside from investing considerable effort in their own vineyards near False Bay, their quest to find the perfect sites for each of the five varieties used in the blend led them from the cooler sites to the rich, shale soils of Bottelary. The goal with each bottling of Faithful Hound is to produce a rich, complex wine that comfortably expresses Old World class and the generosity of fruit associated with the Cape. This is a traditional Bordeaux blend and is even more delicious when paired with dinner. A classic blend of noble red varieties, the wine displays both serious structure and delightful fruit, making it approachable in its youth but undoubtedly worthy of cellaring.

Wine Region

Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is the heart and soul of South African wine, as important to the country's winemaking prestige as Napa is to the United States or Bordeaux to France. This beautiful region comprises seven sub-regions, all centered around the leafy university town of Stellenbosch. Winemaking here is influenced by the cooling sea breezes that sweep in off False Bay, and the crumbly, mineral-rich granite soils. While perhaps most famous for its beloved Pinotage, Stellenbosch also offers a diverse range of varietals, such as its impeccable Bordeaux blends, fragrant Syrah, crisp Chenin Blanc and outstanding Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Cloves tasting note. Cloves
  • A figure representing the Redcurrant tasting note. Redcurrant
  • A figure representing the Brown Fig tasting note. Brown Fig

A pronounced cassis aroma characterizes the first nose but is followed by dried figs, dates, and hints of clove. The fruit yields to a subtle forest-floor. Fruit aromas apparent on the nose follow onto the palate as fleshy ripe flavors but find balance with an earthy, savory character.
