About This Wine

Monjitas Negras

Sweet Style Merlot

Monjitas Negras presents a vibrant Merlot destined to charm your palate with its ripe fruit flavor and spice. Although this French grape variety is not indigenous to Argentina, Merlot — meaning “little blackbird” in French — soars to new heights in the vineyards of Mendoza. Closeby, the peaks of the Andes Mountain Range reach elevations up to 3,900 feet above sea level. The sun’s rays face no challenges ripening Merlot at these heights, showcasing its juicy, fruit-forward character. Cool mountain nights preserve the grape’s textures by giving them a much-needed break from ripening. These conditions, and a touch of oak from the winemaker, create the delicious balance of flavor and texture that makes our Merlot just as upbeat and cheerful as its colorful label. This wine makes the perfect casual companion. Enjoy it paired with a sunny day on your back patio or curled up with your favorite book. Wine Region

Mendoza

Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.

Aromas of dark chocolate join scents of vanilla and subtle hints of baking spice. Texturally, the palate is plush and round, with gentle acidity and soft tannins. Blueberry and black plum flavors burst forward and eventually fade to reveal a sweet vanilla finish.
