The MMXII is one of the most food-friendly wines we've ever come across. Of course, that's by design. The winemaking team behind MMXII believe that the first step to creating a wine is to imagine the food you're going to eat with it and, for their 2013 Merlot, that means pretty much everything. Perfect for any occasion from a fancy steak dinner to a cheeseburger BBQ, this rich, fruit-forward wine has the silky tanins, good balance, and incredible flavor to make almost any dish shine.

Souring the grapes for this wine was like a treasure hunt: Joe Otos and his team searched all over California looking for the perfect grapes to fit Joe's unique vision. Using grapes from the sea swept vineyards of the Central Coast to the mountainous jagged terrain of Northern California, this wine contains some of the best grapes the Golden State has to offer. This diversity of grapes gives the wines a distinct and unparalleled flavor, adding nuance and depth to this incredibly drinkable, food-friendly merlot.

Simply put, Joe Otos has a reputation for making great wine. One of the most acclaimed winemakers working in California today, his wines have won a number of gold medals, 90+ point scores, and strong reviews. More importantly to us, though, his wines have consistently topped the list of our members' favorite wines throughout 2016 and 2017.

TASTING NOTES:

Upon opening, this wine fully envelops the senses with strong fruity aromatics. Rich in texture and structure, with mature red and black fruits, mineral core and spice make this a terrific every day wine to pair with back yard barbeques or white table cloth meals. This wine loves food!
