Agiorgitiko

THIS JUST IN: Our first-ever Greek red wowed the judges at the 2022 Dan Berger's International Wine Competition bringing home "Best of Class" honors and a Triple Gold Medal!

Meraklis, a word used to refer to one who lives in the moment, welcomes you to the sunny shores of Greece. Our Agiorgitiko (ah-yor-YEE-tee-ko) shares an exciting taste of this country’s most widely planted red grape variety with a mix of red and dark fruit flavors joined by a balanced structure and exotic character. This native Greek varietal is comparable to a lighter-styled Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. Greece’s Mediterranean climate offers high temperatures throughout the growing season while the ocean plays a welcome role, moderating temperatures through coastal winds and storms. This hardy red grape is thought to be the preferred wine of Hercules and remains a staple among the locals due to its stylistic versatility and reliable yields in the vineyard. We encourage you to enjoy this wine as a local, served alongside cultural delicacies like youvetsi or baked moussaka. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Greece

One of the most historic wine-producing countries, Greece is a cradle of modern wine culture. While today its wines do not enjoy the same reputation as some of its other European neighbors, Greece and its unique indigenous grape varieties are enjoying a Renaissance. White wine drinkers will love the floral Debina and peachy Malagousia from the cooler, wetter north of the country. Or head down to the sun-kissed Aegean islands for spellbinding Assyrtiko, with flavors ranging from passionfruit and mineral to oak and pineapple. For red wine lovers, southern Greece grows the herbaceous Agiorgitiko, while the sublime Xinomavro of the north—often referred to as "Greece's Barolo"—offers dark cherry and licorice notes.

  • A figure representing the Raspberry tasting note. Raspberry

Aromas of sea salt greet the nose, joined by scents of hawthorn berry. The palate is medium-bodied with modest acidity, tannin and subtle hints of oak and spice. Ripe raspberry, fig and plum sauce rule the fruit-forward flavor profile and linger throughout a soft finish.
