We’re always excited to bring you award-winning California Pinot Grigio, but when the winemakers are pioneering new techniques that benefit both the wine and the land, it’s special. A crisp, citrusy Pinot Grigio from one of California’s most innovative winemaking families, McManis 2015 took silver medals at both the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the 2016 Los Angeles International Wine Competition. Bright flavors of Meyer lemon, lime blossoms and grapefruit make this lively white wine an easy-drinking favorite.

WINEMAKERS

McManis Family Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery, employing sustainable farming techniques to produce award-winning wines. Founded in 1990 by fifth-generation farmer Ron McManis, the winery is recognized as one of the most environmentally-friendly in California, winning the California Green Medal Award for Sustainable Winegrowing in Business in 2016.

The McManis family’s farming expertise is on full display in their 2015 Pinot Grigio, preserving the citrus aromas and delicate acid balance of their fruit by cooling their grapes cold throughout the production process. Grapes are picked overnight and delivered to the winery cold for a gentle crush. They are then immediately pressed, chilled and cold fermented in stainless steel until the wine develops the distinctive dry character of a classic Pinot Grigio.

TASTING NOTES

Light straw in color, McManis 2015 Pinot Grigio’s aromas of citrus give way to bright flavors of Meyer lemon, lime blossoms and grapefruit. While the wine is crisp, there is a noticeable weight to it, and the finish is clean with hints of mineral.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
