About This Wine

Masterworks Series

Sangiovese

When curating your collection of wines, save a place for our Masterworks Series Sangiovese. Beyond its eye-catching label—which deserves the most visible spot on your shelf—this wine exhibits elegant flavors and textures that capture both the influence of nature and the winemaker’s expertise. This Sangiovese falls on the bolder side of its style, with a weightier body and more fruit-forward character than many other Italian examples. This is thanks to the hot and dry climate of Puglia, where grapes spend their days ripening under the Mediterranean sun. Cool breezes from the surrounding waters prevent high temperatures from diminishing the wine’s acidity. These perfectly plump grapes provide an even canvas for our winemakers, who used oak to add complexity, spice, and character to the wine’s fruity profile. Enjoy this bottle among friends paired with lively discussions involving artwork and creative ideas. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Masterworks Series 2019 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

Wine Region

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Blueberry tasting note. Blueberry
  • A figure representing the Cedar tasting note. Cedar

Oak drives the aromatic profile of this wine with scents of cedar and vanilla. The modest acidity matches equally gentle tannins, which have a light, dusty character. These subdued textures allow ripe red cherry and sweet blueberry flavors to shine before vanilla takes over on the finish.
