Hailing from Mendocino County, this Syrah is from a dry-farmed vineyard site planted in the 1880s. The Gibson Block in the heart of the McDowell Valley appellation has famously produced powerful and sumptuous wines for decades. This wine features rich round flavors of dark fruits and herbaceous notes along with savory characteristics that make it full-bodied and delightful. Built to enjoy with food, it will easily age at least another decade, time only enhancing its complexity. Vintages may vary.

McDowell Valley

McDowell Valley is one of Mendocino County's coolest wine regions—literally. Perched 1,000 feet above sea level and overlooking the Russian River, this tiny AVA benefits from a colder summer than surrounding areas. The deep, sloping vineyards here are planted with the same grapes commonly found in France's Rhône Valley. Both densely fruity Grenache and powerful Syrah thrive here, produced from centuries-old vines with deep, complex root systems that bear intensely flavored grapes. Look out for its rich floral whites, especially Viognier and Marsanne, which also grow well in the valley's gravelly loam soil.
