About This Wine

Pinot Noir

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking Oak serves as the muse of this vintage. With beautifully ripe fruit and elegantly balanced qualities, we are given a perfect foundation to build layer upon layer of complexity. After mindful sorting, delicate crushing and closely monitored fermentation, we used extensive oak aging to create a toasty flavor profile, further integrating Pinot Noirs’ nuance and beloved characteristics into a delectably harmonized final wine.

Vintage Our region’s signature cycle of wind and fog is the secret to our 2020 Pinot Noir’s covetable complexity. These grapes ripened unrushed and undisturbed throughout warm summer days on the hillsides of the Santa Lucia Mountains. Like clockwork, strong breezes arrived in the afternoons, accompanied by cool ocean fog from Monterey Bay. This routine slowed ripening and pushed harvest back into late fall, resulting in delectable fruit flavors and charming balance.

Pairing Logic This Pinot Noir showcases an elegant and textural style with a decent amount of oak influence. This makes it a versatile pairing companion. You can highlight fruit notes with salty dishes or fruit-based marinades. Or play into its toasty oak characteristics using savory seasonings, lightly charring meats, or cooking with cedar planks. Juicy poultry or pork will pair best with the wine’s smooth acidity and tannins. You can swap these meats for cooked vegetables prepared in the same manner.

Wine Region

Santa Lucia Highlands

Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, this small but mighty area was recognized for the quality of its terroir and became an AVA in 1991. Cooled by Pacific Ocean fogs and strong Monterey Bay coastal breezes, the sunny vineyards here enjoy one of the longest growing seasons in the region. Some regard its powerful Pinot Noir and deeply flavored Chardonnay as among the best California has to offer. And if you want to look beyond classic Burgundy grapes, try Santa Lucia Highland's intriguing Northern Rhône-inspired Syrah.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Cedar tasting note. Cedar
  • A figure representing the Plum tasting note. Plum
  • A figure representing the Dark Chocolate tasting note. Dark Chocolate

The focus of our Pinot Noir leans away from primary fruit. Instead, each sip highlights characteristics brought forth by mindful winemaking. Aromas of oak mingle with dark chocolate on the nose. The palate presents rich flavors of mulberry and cedar supported by a firm tannic structure.
