About This Wine

Libellus

Pinot Grigio

Varietal: Pinot Grigio
ABV: 12%
Region: Italy
MSRP: $17.00

Nestled between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia produces some of Italy’s finest white wines. The winemakers in this region are famous for their deep understanding of the way wine interacts with food, unlocking hidden flavors. The Libellus 2016 was made in this spirit pairing easily with soft Italian cheeses such fontina and asiago. It’s high flavor profile of peach, nectarine and passionfruit and natural acidity, make this wine the perfect to open before dinner with a nice cheese plate and olives.

REGION:

Nestled between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, Friuli-Venezia Giulia produces Italy’s finest white wines. This is thanks in large part to the drastic day-night temperature variation caused by the cooling influence of the Adriatic. The hot days ripen the grapes, while the mild nights preserve their acidity, resulting in fruit that retains a strong but refined character.

WINEMAKERS:

Libellus is sourced exclusively from two vineyards, Azzano Decimo and Bibano. Located in a secluded area of ancient flat woodland, Azzano Decimo’s hard and compact soils result in low-yield harvests of fragrant, crisp Pinot Grigio. Bibano’s deeper, well-drained soils produce grapes of subtler, more nuanced flavors, which give Libellus its structure and finesse.

TASTING NOTES:

Libellus opens with subtle aromas of almond and pear, working alongside fruit-forward flavors of peach, nectarine and passionfruit. The wine's crisp natural acidity make it a breeze to pair with lighter dishes and refreshing to drink on its own.

Wine Region

Italy

While France takes the crown for the most famous wines styles and grape varieties, Italy is where wine was first perfected. The ancient Greeks called it Oenotria—"land of the vines"—and the Roman Empire advanced grape growing and winemaking to a level of quality we still enjoy today. But behind Italy's best-known wines, such as Chianti, Barolo and prosecco, there's an almost endless diversity of delights awaiting the intrepid explorer. The key to understanding Italian wine is regionality and (of course) food. From the aromatic and sparkling whites of the north to Sicily's rich and spicy reds, Italy offers wine lovers a lifetime of gastronomic treats.
