About This Wine

Leviathan

Red Blend

A 93 point wine that captures decades of winemaking experience and vineyard knowledge. Winemaker, Andy Erickson, began Leviathan in 2004 with single-minded determination: to create a red wine each vintage free from the restraints of appellations and crafted from notable vineyards throughout California. The 2018 proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Franc highlight some growing regions in northern California: Coombsville, Carneros, Red Hills, Moon Mountain, Fountaingrove, and the Sierra Foothills. This wine has beautiful notes of berries and earth.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.

  • A figure representing the Black Cherry tasting note. Black Cherry

The 2018 Leviathan boasts an intense mix of fresh boysenberry, black cherry, and plum aromatics. Its earthy elements of our rocky northern California hillsides include bay laurel, sage, cedar, and dry red earth, which speak to its origins. Supple and balanced tannins of this rich wine lead to a long, savory finish.
