About This Wine

La Douleur Exquise

Grenache Blanc

The 2019 vintage of our award-winning Grenache Blanc from La Douleur Exquise in Pays d’Oc was spectacular — it earned the Best of Class title, 90 points, and a Gold Medal. Our newest 2020 vintage is a product of the same time-tested vines, impeccable terroir, and meticulous winemaking practices. The Pays d’Oc region is inland from the coastline in Southwest France and experiences a moderate Mediterranean climate with hot, dry days and cooling coastal influences. These factors allow Grenache Blanc, a somewhat fussy grape primarily known for its role as a blender in the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend, to thrive. When highlighted on its own, this varietal is fresh and bright. For this particular wine, our winemaking partners harvested fruit from low-yielding vines. This resulted in an impeccable concentration of varietal flavors and allowed for this wine to become a stunning representation of what can happen when everything goes just right. La Douleur Exquise 2020 Grenache Blanc Pays d'Oc IGP, France

Wine Region

Pays d'Oc

If you've vacationed in the south of France, you've probably visited the Pays d'Oc region. Embracing the Mediterranean from Spain to Provence, this region is famed as much for its Grenache, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as its endless sunshine. Pays d'Oc covers non-AOC wines made across this large, sun-kissed region, known as France's "New World." Far from the regulations of the AOC system, pioneering winemakers headed here to experiment, crafting many now-famous wines that often state their grape variety on the label—not something that was common in France before then. IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) within France’s wine classification system focuses on controlling regional and geographical origin. The category is less restrictive than the AOC classification and gives winemakers more freedom with style and taste profile when creating wines.
