About This Wine

La Douleur Exquise

Grenache

The 2020 International Women's Wine Competition is one of the few wine competitions held just before the world hit pause on social gatherings. We are thrilled to have earned the accolades of 95 points and Double Gold and to be named "Best of Class" by women winemakers, influencers, and industry legends. If that weren't enough to lend credibility to our winemaking team, perhaps winning 98 points and Double Gold at the 2020 Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition does. Fruit planted in this region experiences an extremely hot climate that is mitigated by dry afternoon winds. This environment, along with limestone and clay soils, creates an idyllic atmosphere for varietals prone to disease and a bit on the finicky side. Made in a unique combination of Old World and New World styles, this Grenache is fruit-forward and incredibly approachable. Our French Grenache breaks from that tradition with our 2019 vintage, featuring rousingly prominent fruit flavors in this classic French varietal. La Douleur Exquise 2019 Grenache Pays d'Oc IGP, France

Wine Region

Pays d'Oc

If you've vacationed in the south of France, you've probably visited the Pays d'Oc region. Embracing the Mediterranean from Spain to Provence, this region is famed as much for its Grenache, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as its endless sunshine. Pays d'Oc covers non-AOC wines made across this large, sun-kissed region, known as France's "New World." Far from the regulations of the AOC system, pioneering winemakers headed here to experiment, crafting many now-famous wines that often state their grape variety on the label—not something that was common in France before then. IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) within France’s wine classification system focuses on controlling regional and geographical origin. The category is less restrictive than the AOC classification and gives winemakers more freedom with style and taste profile when creating wines.

"Cherry soda notes make you think you will be getting a lighter style wine, but the fresh, elevated red fruits make way for a medium-bodied wine with intense tannins." - Allison Levine, 2020 Critics Challenge International Wine Competition.
