About This Wine

Indaba

Chardonnay

The history of winemaking in South Africa is longer than most people think. Since the Dutch East India Company established a base in what would become Cape Town, wine has been a vibrant part of the country’s economy. In recent years winemaking has flourished and the number of producers has skyrocketed. Living firmly in the “new world” school of winemaking, South African wineries are adventurous and make wines that are not only delicious but are also a joy to drink. The 2016 Chardonnay from Indaba has a tropical fruit nose and vibrant flavors of apple, pear, and honey. It’s just as good with a salad as it is with spicy foods!

REGION
South Africa has a surprisingly long and rich history considering its status as part of the “New World” of wine. Wine production is mainly situated around Cape Town, where the climate is generally warm to hot, but the Benguela current from Antarctica provides the brisk ocean breezes necessary for steady ripening. Similarly, cooler high-elevation vineyard sites offer climatic diversity.

TASTING NOTES
Bright tropical fruit aromas lead to a crisp, fresh palate with mouth-filling flavors of apple, pear, honey and pineapple. A gentle kiss of oak adds a creamy butterscotch nuance and wonderful depth.

Wine Region

South Africa

With its mountainous, maritime-influenced winegrowing regions, South Africa produces top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc and premium Syrah, Pinotage, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The Dutch brought vines here back in the 1600s to satiate their thirsty sailors en route to India, but they probably never imagined just how important to the wine world South Africa would one day become. Indeed, it took centuries for South Africa to discover its full potential. Most of the country's winegrowing areas thrive in the southwest, known as the Western Cape. Its most famous regions are an easy drive from Cape Town and include Stellenbosch, Swartland, Breedekloof and Franschhoek.
