About This Wine

Il Fuimarolo

Sangiovese

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking Our winemakers strive to honor Tuscany’s timeless heritage with every decision as they nurture this wine along its journey from grape to glass. Mindful fruit selection, length of skin contact, fermentation techniques, and oak barrel aging each play a role in the endless complexity this wine has to offer. The result is a balance of satisfying structure and classic varietal expression.

Vintage Our 2019 vintage awoke late from its winter slumber due to an especially cold and wet spring. Thankfully the summer brought high temperatures and dry weather with the exception of a few (welcome) rainstorms at the end of July, which replenished thirsty vines. The summer heat that amplified ripe flavors was contrasted by a balmy autumn that preserved natural acidity and created a delectably balanced wine and the perfect conditions for harvest.

Pairing Logic This classic Sangiovese pairs best with Italian-inspired dishes featuring meaty red sauces and rustic spices. Sangiovese’s food-friendly acidity and tannins are perfect for breaking down hearty proteins and fats. That means you should reach for hard cheeses and marbled cuts of red meat. Tomato-based stews, sauces and seasonings that feature Italian herbs will mirror the wine’s earthy and herbal characteristics. Adding a pinch of salt to any dish will emphasize Sangiovese’s red fruit flavors and add fullness to its palate.

Wine Region

Tuscany / Toscana

Italy's rich food and wine heritage is nowhere better demonstrated than historic Tuscany. You can eat and drink like a king here—ideally on a grand terrazza overlooking medieval hillsides strewn with olive and cypress trees. From mouthwatering whites for sipping with antipasti, to sophisticated reds that elevate the meat dishes of Florence (and of course leaving room for sweet Vin Santo with dessert), Tuscany has it all. Sangiovese is the region's star grape, giving us not just Chianti, but also Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the epic Super Tuscan blends.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Cherry tasting note. Cherry
  • A figure representing the Tobacco tasting note. Tobacco
  • A figure representing the Earth tasting note. Earth

To unveil each level of complexity, decant this wine. On the nose, dense aromas of earth intermingle with tobacco and leather. The palate is light-bodied with restrained acidity and coarse tannins. Muted red cherry flavors and savory oak lead to a dry, food-friendly finish.
