About This Wine

Idlewright

Opulent Red

"Rich and luxurious, this predominantly Merlot blend exhibits ripe red-fruit flavors, nicely integrated tannins and a subtle note of graphite for additional complexity. A Platinum award-winner at the 2018 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition." - Robert Whitley of Wine Review Online "Merlot is undergoing a bit of a renaissance thanks to wines like this, that aren't trying to act like other varieties, instead choosing to embrace their own unique characteristics. It's all here - cherry, blackberry, a touch of dried herbs, supple tannic structure and a long well-integrated finish. I'd have labeled this bottle Merlot proudly, but then I don't have a marketing manager. A Platinum Award Winner at the 2018 Monterey International Wine Competition" It’s hard to explore the world of wine without hearing whispers about the legendary vineyards in Napa. Nestled between two mountain ranges the valley floor has expressive soils, and grapes that thrive in this soil have characteristics that can’t be found anywhere else. The Idlewright Opulent Red is big, rich, and dark with luxurious flavors of black cherry, cocoa, and sweet oak. And not only is this wine from an incredible region, it’s from an incredible year. The Napa harvest in 2013 was textbook perfect, resulting in beautifully complex wines that our experts can’t get enough of.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
