About This Wine

Heliograph Estates

Pinot Noir

Each sip of our Heliograph Estates Pinot Noir is beaming with plush flavors of sweet red fruit and tender acidity. The cool climate found in California’s Arroyo Seco AVA makes an ideal home for these thin-skinned red grapes. Coastal fog and afternoon winds prolong the ripening season, which provides our tender Pinot Noir grapes ample time to develop their complex variety of fruit flavors without the threat of overripening. This extra “hang time” gives our Pinot more body and fruitiness than other cool-climate examples. Enjoying this versatile wine on its own will allow you to focus on its nuanced aromas and flavors. But you can also serve it with food and not dull its radiant fruit or friendly textures. We invite you to create a comprehensive culinary experience by pairing a glass with mushroom risotto or seared duck breast. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Arroyo Seco

Lying in the middle of the Salinas Valley, the under-appreciated Arroyo Seco AVA is a beacon of cool-climate winemaking in Monterey County. Its vineyards—especially those to the east—are buffeted for much of the day by cold Pacific winds and shrouded by fog. This combines to give Arroyo Seco an extremely long growing season. Soils throughout the AVA are stony, and these stones absorb sunlight to provide additional heat to the vines. While winemakers face a challenging growing environment, the effort is worth it, as the area produces superbly balanced Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling; intriguing Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon perform well in the western part of the AVA.
