About This Wine

Hawthorne Grove

Chenin Blanc

And Hawthorne Grove is one of our most award-winning wines: it was named the Monterey County Pinot Noir Winery of the year in 2016, as well as taking home high points, double gold medals, and great reviews.

Hawthorne Grove has distinguished itself as a rising star in California winemaking, winning gold medals for each of their first three wines. When we heard about their debut Chenin Blanc, we immediately reserved all we could. We knew anything crafted by Hawthorne Grove would be good, but this Chenin Blanc is great. The wine bursts with aromas of ripe fruit, and tastes of lychee, honey, and pear. Subtle notes of crisp grapefruit quench your thirst and make the Hawthorne Grove Chenin Blanc a delight to drink again and again.

WINEMAKER
This wine comes from an up and coming force in the winemaking industry. Hawthorne Grove Winery has won numerous silver medals, five gold medals, one double gold medal, and was even voted 2016 Monterey County Winery of the Year on the strength of only their first four wines. Every release is a stunner, and we can't wait to try anything they send our way.

REGION
There aren’t many wine regions in the world more diverse than California. The warm days and cool nights are perfect for producing concentrated and expressive grapes over the long growing season. With vineyards on the sea-swept Central Coast; the mountainous, jagged terrain of Northern California; and the storied plots of Napa, winemakers can be exacting in choosing the specific climate and terroir they are looking for when making their wines.

TASTING NOTES
The Hawthorne Grove 2016 Chenin Blanc is a wine in keeping with the heritage of Hawthorne Grove. It feels silky in the mouth with lush notes of toasted almond, honey, & Asian pear. Subtle hints of crisp grapefruit make it refreshing and easy to drink anytime.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
