Hawthorne Grove crafts wine from vineyards across California, and their first Winemaker's Reserve is a vibrant, gold-medal winning celebration of the state's finest appellations . Their first vintage, the 2013 Pinot Noir Monterey, established Hawthorne Grove as one of California’s most celebrated new wineries, with accolades including a gold medal at the 2016 New York International Wine Competition and being named Monterey County’s 2016 Pinot Noir Winery of the Year. The 2013 Winemaker’s Reserve Red has carried on this tradition, winning the Gold Medal at the 2017 West Coast Wine Competition.

WINEMAKER:

Joe Otos is a genius of California wine, creating blends and varietals that convey the unique identity of each of the state’s finest appellations. With over 25 gold medals to his name in the past year, including two for Hawthorne Grove, Joe’s deep knowledge of California’s distinct microclimates and terroirs is evident in every sip.

REGION:

For each wine, Hawthorne Grove selects grapes from the unique California terroirs best suited for each varietal. The 2013 Winemaker’s Reserve Red is derived from 7 different and diverse California appellations, including fruit from the cool Pacific microclimate of the North Coast AVA and the heritage Zinfandel grapes of Paso Robles.

TASTING NOTES:

Winemaker's Reserve is a wine of great palate weight and texture, balancing oaky tannins with the flavor of sweet dark berries. This wine is full of energy with a smooth silky finish, pairing well with hearty dishes like slow-cooked pot roast. Hawthorne Grove Winemaker’s Reserve Red also stands on its own as a crowd-pleasing favorite, making it a strong candidate to be your new everyday go-to house red wine.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
