About This Wine
Grand National Blinkers
Vranec
Vranec is a Balkan grape varietal known for its strength, potency, and dark berry coloration— appropriate, given that it means “powerful, dark horse.” The grape is a thoroughbred stallion, untamed and powerful. Its robust flavor contains notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, and distinct non-fruit notes of olive, leather, and cigar. This “black wine” of Macedonia is a common dinner pairing among locals because of its long, savory finish. Vranec goes down easily with hearty dishes, but don’t drink it too quickly—it’s not a race when you want to savor a wine this much. Judges love it too! It took home a Silver medal at the 2020 Winemaker Challenge and at the 2019 Harvest Challenge.
