About This Wine

Gradino di Pietra

Heritage Red Wine Blend

Introducing Gradino di Pietra, the newest addition to our diverse Italian wine portfolio. This blend celebrates Sicily's rich winemaking history by featuring two of its heritage grapes, Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mascalese. Each sip offers a delectable balance of jammy fruit flavor, oak characteristics and spice. These two grapes thrive on the Mediterranean island of Sicily, where our local partners have been crafting wines for over six decades, starting in 1958. Today, they are responsible for nearly 7 percent of the island's vine cultivation. The grapes for this wine are organically farmed and harvested together in the first week of September. While some choose to feature these grapes in single-varietal wines, Sicilians know they shine best as a blend. Nerello Cappuccio adds enticing aromatic elements and natural acidity, while Nerello Mascalese brings bold tannins and dark fruit notes, resulting in a timeless Sicilian classic. Wine Region

Sicily / Sicilia

Even among Italy's diverse wine regions, Sicily offers something unique. Abundant sunshine, varied volcanic terroirs, cool coastal breezes and drying African winds make it a perfect place for growing vines. The island is home to many indigenous grape varieties, featuring reds such as Sangiovese, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, and popular white varieties including Vermentino, Catarratto and Zibibbo. As the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily's position between Europe, Africa and the Levant has long made it a strategic location. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Normans and Arabs have all at various times controlled Sicily, and left their mark on its 4,000-year-old winemaking tradition.
