About This Wine

Gilded Letter

Merlot

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking: Winemakers embrace a thoughtful, low-intervention approach to highlight the natural savory depth and phenolic richness of Paso Robles Merlot. Canopies are carefully managed to shield clusters from excessive afternoon heat while encouraging uniform phenolic maturity and the development of rich skin tannins. Following harvest, the fruit undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs to gently extract color, structured tannins, and dark fruit character without over-extraction. The wine is then racked into French oak barrels to soften its structure, round out the palate, and integrate refined layers of warm cedar, allspice, and subtle savory complexity.

Vintage Notes: The 2024 growing season in Paso Robles featured a steady, temperate summer followed by classic warm, sun-drenched autumn afternoons and cool maritime night breezes funneling through the Templeton Gap. This significant diurnal temperature shift provided extended hang time, allowing Merlot grapes to slowly develop ripe, concentrated fruit flavors while preserving natural acidity and balance. Deep, nutrient-rich soils across the region retained moisture through the dry spell, producing clusters with exceptional depth, supple tannins, and distinct umami complexity at harvest.

Pairing Notes: Its layered notes of wild blackberry, aromatic cedar, and savory earthiness pair well with rustic, slow-cooked fare, savory reduction sauces, and earthy pantry staples. Polished French oak tannins and a full-bodied mouthfeel provide ample structure to cut through rich roasted meats, while the subtle fruit sweetness harmonizes with deep, umami-driven vegetarian dishes.

Wine Region

Paso Robles

Paso Robles

California's fastest-growing wine region is quickly gaining an international reputation for its innovative and boundary-breaking wines. Located halfway between LA and San Francisco, the Paso Robles AVA in San Luis Obispo County has two main zones. The eastern side has a hot and sunny climate with deep, rich soils producing plush, fruity wines with sweet ripe flavors. To the west, the cooling influence of the Pacific brings a zingy backbone to rich Zinfandel and Rhône favorites like Syrah and Viognier. Italian varietals like Sangiovese and Nebbiolo are also favorites of Paso Robles grape growers and wine drinkers.
